Porcelain Tile

When it comes to tile flooring in Milwaukee, porcelain tile is one of the most chosen by homeowners in the area. Although porcelain comes in a whole lot of different styles, some homeowners still question whether or not they should be choosing porcelain tile over ceramic tile.

When it comes down to the different types of porcelain tile flooring, there are a couple of main types of it. And, depending on the traffic to your bathroom, you’ll choose accordingly based on your everyday needs.

The first type of porcelain tile is labeled as being glazed. Glazed porcelain tile is normally found in just about any color, shade and design that you could think of to complement the rest of your bathroom’s decor. They are covered with a solid finish that will hold up to stains and scratches for a time.

Still, the thing to remember about porcelain tile is that it’s actually just protected by what is called a wear layer. The thickness of the wear layer will be in milliliters, and will determine how much damage the tile can take according to the traffic in your bathroom on a regular basis.

The stronger form of porcelain tile is labeled by professionals as being thorough-bodied. This type of tile is a lot stronger than the glazed porcelain, and the tile isn’t just covered with glaze but has the same protective element all the way through the center of the tile.

Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile is also a popular kind of tile flooring in Milwaukee that is chosen by homeowners who are looking to have bathroom renovations done in the near future. It takes just a little bit more attention maintenance-wise to keep up the appearance and strength of ceramic versus porcelain tile. Still, most families find that ceramic can last for years and years on their bathroom floor upon its installation without a whole lot of headache as far as cleaning goes.

The color of your ceramic tile will also determine how much maintenance time you’ll put in, being that lighter colors will always require a little more cleaning than darker ones will. When picking out your ceramic tile, it’ll always be a good idea in an area like a wet, damp bathroom to pick tile that has a textured finish.

Subway Tile

This is one of the original, classic bathroom floor tiles out there on the market, and subway tile doesn’t seem to ever be going out of style as the years go on. This is because it has evolved so many times since the early 1900s when it was first created in the Manhattan subway system.

In those days, keeping the subway areas clean as people would go on and off the trains was a daunting task. And, the janitorial and maintenance workers had to converse with management about how they were going to make their jobs easier with a tile that would be easier to keep clean all day long.

This is one of the main reasons why when it comes to tile flooring in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, subway tile is one of the most loved. Stains simply don’t stick to them like other types of bathroom tile, especially because of that classic smooth finish that subway tile has. That same radiant finish is also why subway tile is also great when paired up with the correct lighting in and around the bathroom, because the tile reflects light amazingly.

Natural Stone

There are a lot of people who love the great outdoors in Milwaukee, WI, and stone tile flooring is sometimes a natural choice from homeowners in this area when they are planning a bathroom renovation. How much maintenance attention you are willing to pay to the stone over the coming years will be key in deciding whether or not you want it to be permanently installed as your bathroom flooring, and there are just so many different natural stones to choose from.

Natural stone tile flooring is so attractive, and enhances a bathroom setting like no other tile can. For example, many folks love the small pebble styles that resemble real rocks because of the authentic look of real stones, as well as because of the fact that natural stone flooring is easy to maintain.

Other than this style, natural stone slate flooring is widely used in the bathroom by homeowners, not only for their durability but also because of the wide selection of colors when deciding upon this type of stone flooring. Most of the time, when using stone flooring, it will stay intact for years and years as long as you apply sealant as needed. Our bathroom contractors will be more than happy to give you more suggestions for maintaining your flooring.

Vinyl

There are specifically two main types of luxury vinyl tile flooring that they should be choosing from when doing their bathroom renovation, SPC and WPC. Once homeowners learn that, one of the first questions to us is which one will be best for them for their everyday lives.

Obviously, if you have a large family that brings a lot of traffic into your bathroom area, then you’d want to go with the more durable choice. In this instance, Stone Plastic Composite (SPC) vinyl tile flooring would probably be your best choice. This one actually stands up well in commercial businesses (like busy restaurants and offices), so when you put it in a home bathroom you can be confident that there’s going to be light maintenance performed on your part.

The other type of vinyl flooring is Wood Plastic Composite (WPC). Out of the two, it is actually the least durable tile, but it’s also the most comfortable to walk on. This is because there’s actually a foam part of the inner layer of this type of tile, and most homeowners find that it is very much more comfortable to walk on. That foam interior actually takes on the temperature of the inside of your home. So, it’s not so cold if you were to step on it barefoot if you are heating your house. Both SPC and WPC vinyl tile flooring is very affordable, and have several designs to choose from.

Is there a reason that you should choose the rigid core SPC over the WPC vinyl tile flooring? Well, it just depends on the amount of traffic that you are going to have in your bathroom.

With Wood Plastic Composite, the center of the tile is made of a very strong foaming agent, which makes the tile buoyant and very comfortable to walk on. WPC is super durable, and it’s great for any bathroom renovation, being that the mix of lightness and strength also comes with literally hundreds of different shades and designs of the tile for you to choose from.

Stone Plastic Composite steps it up a notch when it comes down to toughness and longevity in any bathroom setting. The layer in the middle of this tile is actually quite thinner than in Wood Plastic Composite, but instead of the foam it has a stone core. The only downside of SPC is the fact that it doesn’t have any foam at all to make it as comfortable under your feet as WPC. So, it won’t be as comfortable to walk on, but it’s actually used more in busy commercial businesses such as restaurants or offices, which means it’s made to be simply durable and long-lasting.

That being said, if you have a high traffic bathroom that’ll be used all the time by lots of family members, then incorporating Stone Plastic Composite tile flooring into your bathroom remodeling would be a wonderful idea.

For both Stone Plastic Composite and Wood Plastic Composite tile flooring in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, how many scratches the tile takes is going to be dependent upon how resilient it’s wear layer is. The wear layer is the surface of the bathroom tile itself, and they range from 8 mil to 20 mil. “Mil” of course stands for 1/1000th of an inch, so as the homeowner you would have to simply decide how thick you need the wear layer on your bathroom tile flooring to be.

It’s a decision that you’ll be living with for years, and will determine whether or not after several years you’ll have to end up replacing that tile because of it acquiring so many scratches and such.

So, all that being said, during your free estimate session with our bathroom contractors, we’ll be happy to answer any questions that you have as you tell us about how much use the bathroom will actually be getting (from approximately how many people regularly), and help you decide which one of these vinyl tile flooring options would be best for you.
